The NT scan, also known as the Nuchal Translucency scan, is one of the most important early screening tests during pregnancy. It is usually performed between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days of pregnancy.

This scan measures the fluid-filled space at the back of the baby’s neck. Increased thickness may be associated with chromosomal conditions such as Down syndrome and certain structural abnormalities.

The NT scan also evaluates:

  • Presence of nasal bone
  • Early fetal anatomy
  • Placental position
  • Gestational age confirmation
  • Risk assessment for chromosomal abnormalities

When combined with maternal blood tests, the NT scan provides valuable information about the baby’s health and helps guide further testing if required.

Early detection allows parents and doctors to make informed decisions and plan appropriate follow-up care when necessary.

Getting the NT scan done at the correct time window is essential for accurate results.
